“Bridging the Gap, Playing to Performing”
Dan Glienke enrolled in Better Golf, because he believed the mechanics of his swing were restricting his performance and score on the golf course. Dan set ambitious goals for his game, with the most important goal being to reduce his score from 115 to 80. In order to successfully achieve his desired expectations, he needed to do more than just examine his swing. He also needed to rethink his approach to his game instead of focusing on the traditional intentions of why he played...
- To Win
- To have a Low Score
- To look good to others
- To show off his game
He learned to focus on Better Golf’s intentions,
- Focus on the Target
- Have fun and play with intention
- Be playful and creative on the course
- Enjoy the experience
These intentions allowed Dan to bridge the gap between his expectations and his performance on the course by introducing him to the concept of creating awareness through focus.
Techniques to achieve success on the course are:
- Awareness: Are you present to your thoughts and your surroundings?
- Focus: Is your focus on the ball or a target?
- Possibilities: Will you allow yourself to play creatively?
With this in mind, Dan’s golf journey began. One year later, he recognized that applying these concepts had measurably impacted his performance on the course. By allowing himself to play golf creatively, Dan’s focus centered on enjoyment and fun instead of outcome and score. While creating freedom for himself within his game, he was also accomplishing his primary goal of reducing his score- he played 4 rounds in the 70’s! Another important insight for Dan was learning that he could trust his swing. He realized that it was not swing mechanics “that needed to be fixed,” instead he needed to allow his natural swing flow to emerge. The change of focus from the swing to the target allowed him to focus his energy to the target.
At the end of his second year in Better Golf, Dan was able to review these goals and accomplishments.
